IFFI Goa 2017 – A cultural extravaganza
So I again visited Goa 😀 And this time to cover and witness India’s biggest Film Festival, IFFI.
India is bubbling over with insane talent and I had a chance to watch some of it in the form of short films by incredible directors at 48th International Film Festival of India held from the 20th to 28th of November, 2017 in the beach state of India – Goa.
IFFI helps the film lovers to meet the biggest and brightest names of Indian film Industry. And they did what they promise as eminent Indian film personalities such as Shahrukh Khan, A.R Rahman, Sridevi, Nana Patekar and Shahid Kapoor graced the event. The opening ceremony of IFFI 2017 was anchored by Raj Kumar Rao and Radhika Apte.
IFFI 2017 showcased 195 films from over 82 countries of which there were 10 World Premieres, 10 Asian and International premieres and over 64 Indian premieres with French social drama ”120 Beats per minute” taking home the prestigious Golden Peacock award for the best picture.
I watched this movie ‘Beyond the Clouds’ featuring actors Ishaan Khatter and Malavika Mohanan, its a story of a brother and sister like Children of Heaven, with the difference being that the siblings are grownups and tackle greater conflicts with the backdrop of the bustling city of Mumbai was wonderfully showcased at the opening ceremony of the event.
The colourful Panjim, capital of Goa was thoughtfully chosen as the location for this event. The court was housed under a canopy made with colorful fabrics. The vibrant colours combined with the rows of fairy lights and lanterns gave the ambience of a starry night to all the delegates there. It was a delight to the eyes during the day as well. Rays of sunlight used to fall between the spaces of this covering, creating unique shadow patterns on the floor. But, the best part was the picturesque sea facing location of the event and the stay.
I am a sucker for colourful pictures and finding this door in the vicinity of our hotel was perfect to get these beautiful shots. So,for the first day of IFFI, Goa I wore this beautiful pink kurti as a maxi dress from lylawoman. For the second day of the event with the Goa state of mind, the pair of shorts and off shoulder top from Forever21 well coordinated with my blogger friend Malvika suited perfectly. I ended up this event wearing amazing plazzo pants from Fancypantsthestore with statement sleeves top from H&M.
Loved how this festival encourages friendly ties between India and other countries through ‘Country of the focus’ category, by encouraging delegations from the country, as well as respected individuals from the country’s film industry to visit IFFI.
I was astonished by watching this impressive film by Canadian director ‘Eye on Juliet’, a fanciful tale of a Detroit drone operator losing his heart to a North African surveillance subject is naive by design, as it imagines a future utopia where both physical and cultural distances can be bridged through empathy, with a heavy assist from technology.
Another amazing concept was Indian Panorama to weave the audience and filmmakers through a narrative that combines culture, language and heritage of different nations and different reasons. This session witnessed filmmakers Kunjila and Vaibhav to share their experiences making diploma films – GI (Malayalam) and Palash (Bengali).
Joining the league of all the big stars from Bollywood, it was Alia Bhatt who walked the red carpet at IFFI 2017. Clad in a gorgeous black gown and her mane done just right, Alia totally won me over. The actress was there to discuss various facets of cinema and was also been acknowledged with a special award for her contribution to films. Also how can I forget about Star-Studded Closing Ceremony of IFFI 2017 which saw the eclectic performance by Sidharth Malhotra & Papon, Amitabh Bachchan being coffered with the Indian Personality of the year award, Akshay Kumar & Salman Khan gracing the event.
I have endless memories of this event, but for now I need to sign off with a promise to always keep you updated about my life <3.
