Styling For Raymond | Fabric to Fashion
This styling story comes with a lot of history and some hardcore designers. Raymond has always been a label for a complete gentleman look since the day it was incorporated (1925). Today it is one of the biggest retailers of branded fabric in India. The label has always been synonyms to class. To go with today’s fashion need and still keep their legacy intact, they came up with this brilliant concept – Fabric to Fashion. It is all about using the fabrics that are being used since such a long time into what’s trending today. Raymond went for three designer to pull this concept off – Sahil Aneja, Rajesh Pratap & Varun Bahl.
So, for the first day we shot for Sahil Aneja at his Defence Colony Studio. He is the youngest in the industry as compared to the other two designers. He might be the sweetest person you ever meet. He spent around 8 years working with Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna. His work consists of a lot of detailing on simple minimal fabrics. For his Raymond line, he went for dark colors and intricate detailing. Our favourite piece from the collection was the bomber jacket made out of luxe fabrics used by Raymond. We styled with a scarf wrapped around the neck to enhance the whole look. We also used hats and lapel pins for accessorizing the look.
On second day, we shot for Rajesh Pratap at his Noida workshop. He is a globally well-known designer in the fashion industry who started his own label for men and women in 1997. He is a very humble person and a man of few words. He believes in experimenting which has resulted into some masterpieces. In his workshop, we saw a piece that was stitched according to the nerves on the human body. This was done after a full research on human body and a post mortem. Coming to his designs for Raymond, he went for subtle tones like pink and bej. Keeping in mind the current fashion trends, he went for oversized loose suits with an essence of Raymond in it. We paired it with light colored footwear and lapel pins to complement the color palette.
This last day we shot for Varun Bahl, at his DLF Emporio studio. He is one the most passionate designers that we have met. He launched his own line in 2001 and showcased at White in Italy in 2003. There he was voted as the ‘Best of Season’ from among 20 competing designers from different countries. He specializes in both men and women’s wear. For Raymond, he came up with trench coats and long jackets on fabrics like tweed and wool. He experimented around plaids on the jackets and the trousers. We paired the whole look with dark colored footwear and scarves.
Each of these designers specializes in their men’s wear and have different outlook towards the ongoing fashion. All three of them are exclusive in what they design and present. It was such a huge opportunity to work with each one of them. The commercials for these are yet to release. We will update the post as and when they are out. We hope that you liked this post.
